Manningtree & District/Frankenberg

Partnership Association (MDFPA) is a  community membership organisation, celebrating our local community and heritage as well as our link with Europe through partnership with Frankenberg, a beautiful, historic town in Germany. This photo, taken in January 22, commemorates the occasion of a plaque being placed at the Anniversary Wildlife Garden in Quay Street, Manningtree, celebrating 50 years of Partnership.

News Update

From 16 - 19 June 2022 Manningtree hosted a Partnership visit from Frankenberg - at long last, having been postponed twice because of Covid! Local partnership members accommodated 11 guests and together enjoyed guided tours of Harwich and Christchurch Mansion in Ipswich. Visiting local sites meant we had more time for socializing and getting to know each other.  Of course, the highlight of every visit is the celebration dinner, this time at the Venture Centre.

EVERYONE in Manningtree and the surrounding area had been invited. So it was that over 50 people enjoyed a wonderful evening. A member of the German Embassy and representatives of local councils were among the guests who all enjoyed excellent food, entertainment by a local jazz band, but above all, a spirit of welcome and warmth which was palpable on this very special evening when people who had been strangers only two days ago came together in friendship.

More recently members enjoyed a "Winter Warmer" afternoon with mulled wine and delicious food to greet the New Year.

Home: Who We Are

What we do when there is no visit to or from Frankenberg

We arrange occasional social gatherings, and some have become traditions.

Getting together early in January is one such tradition, when a glass of "Glühwein", accompanied by some traditional German Christmas goodies has been a wonderful sociable way to start recent New Years.

Then there are the simple German-style suppers accompanied by musical entertainment which are as popular as our "Kaffee und Kuchen" afternoons. But we have also enjoyed traditional English afternoon teas in a garden on sunny summer afternoons.

Apart from social activities the Association also presents an annual prize to a Manningtree High School student who has made exceptional progress in their German language studies.

Exchange visits

Regular visits link the people of our towns. This photo stems from the most recent visit in June 2022. Local Partnership members say good bye to our visitors from Frankenberg after a highly enjoyable visit.

Exchanging gifts

Every exchange visit has a celebration dinner and an exchange of gifts! In 2022 our guests from Frankenberg took home a painting of Manningtree and left us two deckchairs with designs by the artist Philipp Soldan, a famous son of Frankenberg.

A local social get-together

The Partnership arranges regular local social gatherings for its members [Covid-permitting].
On this occasion members were enjoying genuine German cakes and live music!
