Our Story

The Manningtree area has been twinned with Frankenberg since 1970. The aim of both communities is to get to know each other better and foster good relations, understanding and friendship between the peoples of both places.

Frankenberg in the state of Hessen in Germany is a historic town that celebrated its 775th anniversary in 2019. It is situated on a hill which is crowned by the beautiful Liebfrauenkirche which can be spotted from afar.

There have been many exchange visits over the years with guests always hosted by individual families. This has led to many enduring friendships. But times change and even though we  still recommend home stays, visitors now have the option of B&B or hotel accommodation.

The  partnership also invites

membership of local interest groups to form links with like-minded groups in Frankenberg.

To encourage language learning, the partnership sponsors a prize at Manningtree High School for achievements in German for Year 7 pupils.

If YOU have a heart for better understanding across borders, please get in touch via our contact details on the Home Page.

We would love to hear from you!
